If you’re interested in doing some mystery shopping, GFK is a company to consider signing up with. They have lots and lots of shops available, and they are one of the largest research marketing companies in the world. I had never written about them before and I’m always seeing some of their shops being posted up at the Work Place Like Home forum (in the mystery shopping section), so I figured I’d share some details today. GFK is extremely reputable, a member of the MSPA, and they’ve been around for more than fifteen years.
Who can sign up?
You can do shops for GFK Mystery Shopping if you are in the US, Canada, or Puerto Rico. Like most mystery shopping companies, there is a little qualification test you have to take before you’ll be allowed to accept shops, but it’s open book.
What kinds of shops do they have available?
This is a company that has a variety of different types of mystery shops. Shop types include retail, financial, wireless telecom, restaurants, automotive, petroleum and convenience stores.
How much do you earn?
Like most other similar companies, it will vary per shop. But you’re usually reimbursed for whatever you spend for the shop plus more just for doing the shop.
How are you paid?
GFK pays via Paypal for the shops you complete. Before you get paid, you have to of course write up your report on the shop and send it to them. I read on the WPLH forum that they usually pay within 12 days of receiving your report.
Feedback
I always find tons of feedback on pretty much any mystery shopping company I decide to check out at Mystery Shop Forum. There are some positive and negative threads posted about GFK. It does look like someone with payment issues was able to get their situation resolved after contacting GFK, so that is a good sign. While skimming through, I also saw where someone reported being paid in about five days and how that’s faster than most mystery shopping companies ever pay.
